The frustration was clear in Felipe Scolari's words after he had watched his side pass up an opportunity to qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League for the second game running.

With no away win in Europe for over a year and only limited success on our travels abroad over the past three seasons, home form has been the foundation of our progress into the latter stages - and so it will need to be again after first defeat in Rome and now a draw in France.

It had been a poor display going forward in this fifth group stage game but then Nicolas Anelka's second Champions League goal for the club, made by a combination of a Bordeaux mistake plus great Frank Lampard play - and taken clinically by the striker in his homeland - looked to have won the three points.

No team knows how to make a 1-0 lead count like Chelsea - or so we thought until an unmarked Alou Diarra headed in with 82 minutes on the clock.

'It was a bad goal,' lamented Scolari, 'because we train every time for this. I am not satisfied.

'We are strong when we attack corners for us and I think this is the first time we conceded a goal from a corner since I have been Chelsea manager.

'If we look at the game, the final result is normal,' he admitted, 'but after we had scored, we controlled the game, they didn't try to shoot - but after we lost the goal and lost one player, we gave more chance to Bordeaux.

'We are normally strong for these type of goals,' he reemphasised, still trying to make sense of it. He made no complaint about Lampard's two yellow cards. The second, which rules the vice-captain out of the final game, came three minutes after the equaliser.

'We did not relax after we scored. The players respect the other team but they made a mistake over who marked this player. It was a mistake, not because the players thought it was an easy game.'

With Roma one point ahead after a 3-1 win in Romania and Bordeaux one point behind and still to go to Rome, attention turns to a game Chelsea will be favourites to win- but with no margin for error.

'We need to beat Cluj at home,' stated Scolari. 'If I think my team does not have the quality to beat Cluj, it is better I go back to Brazil and stay there - but we have lost qualification twice and we need to think about this and ask why.

'Maybe we do not finish first in the group. I didn't think when I start that we would finish second because I think I have the players to arrive in first position. But now it is not in our hands because we have lost these two points. Now we only need think about qualification and after we see what happens.'

There will be more exclusive reaction from Scolari and his players on Chelsea TV from 6.30pm on Thursday. Highlights are on Chelsea Plus.
