1 Foul Early chance for former Chelsea man Damian Duff to swing in a cross as Ashley Cole fouls Habib Beye near the corner. Chelsea clear well.

2 Shot Obafemi Martins drags a low shot well wide of Petr Cech's post.

5 Chance First opportunity for the Blues falls to Malouda on the edge of the box, but his right-footed effort is blocked. Deco had supplied the pinpoint cross.

5 Effort Eugen Trica shoots just over from distance. So far Chelsea have had the more possession but Cluj are holding their own.

7 Save Frank Lampard nearly opens the scoring with a close-range header, but he fails to find the bottom corner and Shay Given pulls off a superb save in the Newcastle goal.

12 Wide Anelka misses the target after Ashley Cool chips a cross to the far post. There was also a suspicion of offside against the Frenchman.

13 Shot Lampard feeds Anelka 25 yards out and this time he does hit the target, but the shot is tame and easy for Given to gather.

15 Run Malouda dances past two Newcastle challenges and into the area, but can't quite finish as Sebastian Bassong makes a strong tackle.

20 Over Jonas Gutierrez has time and space to line up a volley from outside the Chelsea box, but slices his shot high and wide.

22 Header Anelka wrestles out wide and crosses into the box following a corner. Ivanovic is still up and jumps highest, but sends his header over the bar.

29 Acrobatics A flowing Chelsea move ends with Deco dinking a through ball into Lampard's path. The midfielder hits the target with his volley on the turn, but Given is equal to it.

30 Miss Ashley Cole's diving header somehow manages to miss the target after Bosingwa sends a near-perfect cross to the far post that evaded everyone except the advanced full-back.

34 Close Blues are edging closer as Ivanovic flashes a header just past the post from Lampard's pinpoint free-kick. Petr Cech is as yet untested.

38 Warning Gutierrez shows his worth to Newcastle bursting into the home penalty area and cutting back for Owen, but the forward can't get his shot away thanks to a timely challenge from John Terry.

48 Chance First chance of the second half goes to Chelsea and Anelka, who races through behind the Newcastle line. His shot is powerful and deflected slightly, but Given saves with his chest.

49 Yellow card Gutierrez is booked for a foul on Malouda as he is about to shoot. It leaves both requiring treatment. From the free-kick Deco hits the wall.

53 Ruled out Joe Cole bundles the ball over the line and thinks he has given Chelsea the lead, but an offside flag cancels it out. Given had parried from Malouda after Lampard had fed through.

56 Miss Lampard sweeps his shot narrowly wide from inside the area following Anelka's smart pass. A Chelsea goal has looked likely all afternoon but has still not arrived.

60 Newcastle sub Shola Ameobi replaces Obafemi Martins. Lampard curls a free-kick underneath the crossbar which Given nearly spills over his line.

64 Deflected Lampard's shot is charged down and ricochets behind for a corner, Chelsea's sixth of the game so far.

71 Chelsea sub Salomon Kalou replaces Florent Malouda on the Chelsea left.

76 Newcastle sub The impressive Gutierrez is replaced by Charles N'Zogbia.

81 Chelsea sub Michael Ballack makes a late entrance to the game, at the expense of Joe Cole.

83 Persistence Chelsea are still huffing and puffing but cannot break through this determined Newcastle side, which features 10 men behind the ball at all times.

85 Abused Deco is chopped by Danny Guthrie, who is booked. From the free-kick, Lampard curls over. A real waste.

89 Agonising late chance for sub Ballack after Mikel floats in a deep cross. His left-footed shot hits the side-netting. Time is almost up.

Joe Cole and Petr Cech returned from injury, while Deco and José Bosingwa started despite playing a midweek friendly in Brazil. Branislav Ivanovic continued at centre-half with John Terry.

This was the fourth home game this season we have not won in the Premier League, following draws against Tottenham and Manchester United and defeat to Liverpool. It is our first 0-0 in the league this season.

Newcastle are still to taste victory at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League. They have not won at Chelsea since 1986.

Liverpool's 0-0 draw at home to Fulham keeps Chelsea on top of the table.
