CHELSEA TAKING A LEAD ON CSR
Chelsea Football Club's players and management have come top in a survey highlighting participation in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes by Premier League clubs.
The survey, conducted by the Professional Footballers' Association, has revealed that Chelsea players took part in 422 CSR related activities, either as individuals or as a squad group, during last season, 2007-8.
John Terry, Chelsea's captain, PFA representative and Football in the Community ambassador, welcomed the results:
'It's a great honour that the work we do has been recognised. All players, not just at Chelsea, undertake a lot of visits to hospitals and schools and we see loads of young kids down at our training ground which gives us all a big buzz.
'We all feel these visits are an important part of being a footballer and we are proud of the work we do off the pitch.'
Earlier this season Chelsea released our second CSR report, which covered all activities for the 2006-7 season. That report revealed that the club invested £4.39 million in CSR, 2.3 per cent of annual turnover.
The CSR report for the 2007-8 season will be unveiled in May 2009.
